1559; Bernardino Campi Painting Sofonisba Anguissola; Sofonisba Anguissola; Pinacoteca Nazionale, Siena
This is a self portrait of Sofonisba. She's painting Campi painting her...could that be why she seems to have TWO left hands? She seems to be painting herself through him.
I never noticed that before! (The hand thing, that is...) Every time I've looked at that portrait, it was for shoulder treatments/partlet ideas; that teaches me to be so myopic!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even see the two handed thing until I magnified the picture. That is a very cool and interesting painting. I love that it's by a woman (in a man's profession at least at the time) and shows not only amazing talent, but also intelligence and a sense of humor.
